On the map, Long Lake Conservation Center is in the heart of Aitkin County, south of Palisade, between McGregor and Aitkin. As a county park and nature education facility, Long Lake Conservation Center is the place for learning, discovery, and connecting to nature. Our mission is to encourage the exploration, conservation, education, and appreciation of nature! Everyday we work to connect people with nature.
Primarily, Long Lake serves schools by hosting overnight, nature immersion field trips called the Long Lake Field Study. Additionally, we offer week long summer camps, adult programs, facility rentals, and community workshops. Long Lake Conservation Center sits on 760 acres and features a private lake, miles of hiking trails, ski trails, a bog boardwalk, geocaches, and more!
Long Lake Conservation Center’s purpose is to inspire a deep appreciation of nature so that all those who experience Long Lake build skills and affect to respect the natural world surrounding them and accomplish lifelong stewardship of the environment. We started working towards this purpose in 1963. Over the years thousands of learners explored the bogs, lakes, and woods of the Conservation Center.
